One of the most common reasons people give for studying English is that they love to travel. In fact, English is often the common language uniting travelers from around the globe, and as the tourist industry often caters to English speakers, it can be a must-have whether reserving train tickets, a nice table at a restaurant or a hotel room.
Una de las razones más frecuentes por las que la gente dice estudiar ingles es la amor por viajar. De hecho, suele ser Inglés el idioma que une a los viajeros alrededor del mundo. Además, como la industria del turismo suele apuntar hacia los angloparlantes, saber inglés puede resultar realmente necesario al momento de reservar pasajes de tren, una habitación de hotel o una mesa bonita en un restaurant.
Booking a hotel room in English can seem daunting at first, but with a little practice, you will be able to make reservations like a pro! Of course, it is important to organize your thoughts before you dial the number - knowing what you want is the first step in asking for it.
Whether you will be staying in a budget hotel or a luxury resort, the clerk will likely ask you a number of predictable questions, including "How many nights will you be staying?", "Would you like a single or double room?" as well as the dates of your visit. You will also need to give a number of personal details including your name, the names of anyone traveling with you, and your credit card information, mailing address and email address.
Reservar una habitación de hotel en inglés puede parecer sobrecogedor al principio, pero con un poco de práctica podras realizar reservas como un profesional. Es importante organizar las ideas antes de discar el numero: para poder solicitar algo, primero en necesario saber qué es lo que deseamos.

Before you call, it is a good idea to practice spelling your name out loud, and to say all the relevant numbers out loud as well. Keep in mind that area code refers to the prefix of your telephone number, zipcode to the postal code of your address and "expiration date" to the date when your credit card expires.
Suele resultar útil, antes de realizar un llamado, deletrear el nombre en voz alta y también los números que se consideren importantes. With a few key phrases and your credit card in hand, you are almost ready to book your room. Of course, you may have a few questions of your own, such as "Do you have a swimming pool?" It is a good idea to establish a friendly relationship with hotel staff - these are the people who can help make your stay more enjoyable and who are there to solve any problems that may arise.
Si contamos con frases claves y tenemos la tarjeta de crédito a mano, ya estamos casi listos para reservar la habitación. Sin embargo, puede que se necesite saber si el hotel cuenta con piscina, a qué hora se debe realizar el check-out y si nos pueden recoger por el aeropuerto. Debemos tener presente que la persona del otro lado del teléfono está allí para ayudar. Es de utilidad entablar una relación amistosa con el personal del hotel, ya que pueden hacer que la estadía sea mucho más placentera y resolver los problemas que pudieran surgir.
While one always hopes for a stress-free vacation, problems do crop up from time to time. When making complaints, strive to Be Clear, Be Courteous and Be Solution-Oriented.
Whether you need a quieter room, encounter unexpected charges on your bill or are displeased with the service you have received, you will get better results if you state your concern calmly. If you do not receive a reasonable solution, you can always ask to speak to the manager. Of course, it's better to prevent problems before they arise, and please and thank you can go a long way to building good communication. An appropriate tip never hurts either, so be sure to find out the customary tip percentages for various services before you leave.
A pesar de que uno siempre espera no estresarse durante las vacaciones, pueden aparecer algunos inconvenientes de vez en cuando. A la hora de presentar quejas, hay que esforzarse por ser claro, cortes y estar dispuesto a encontrar una solución. Se obtendrán mejores resultados si el problema se expresa con tranquilidad, ya sea que se necesite una habitación más silenciosa, que se hayan encontrado gastos inesperados en nuestra cuenta o que no estemos conformes con la calidad de los servicios prestados. En caso de no recibir una solución razonable, siempre se puede recurrir a “hablar con un superior”. Obviamente, es mejor prevenir los problemas antes de que se presenten: utilizar el “por favor” y el “gracias” contribuyen a una buena comunicación. También es cierto que una propina generosa nunca daño a nadie, así que antes de retirarse hay que averiguar cuáles son los porcentajes de propina que se acostumbra dejar para los distintos servicios.
