Have you ever wondered what happens with all the lost luggage that never turns out at the airports?. It seems that most of it is given to another purpose!! Every year, an estimate of 5.000 pieces of luggage are left behind at airports only in the U.S, that is, thousands of luggage that are not claimed.
¿Se ha preguntado alguna vez que destino tienen tods esas piezas de que nunca aparecen en los aereopuertos? Tienen otro destino al parecer! Cada año, se estima que unas 5.000 piezas de equipaje son abandonadas o extraviadas solo en los aereopuertos de los Estados Unidos, es decir, miles de equipajes que no son reclamados.
The final destiny of these pieces of luggage is the auction bid, where they are sold to the highest bidder. These auctions are held with items that haven’t been recovered in six months or more. The bidders buy the items sight unseen, therefore they can end up with a bundle of used clothes of a bundle of hard cash, as it happened to a lucky bidder in 2002, upon buying a suitcase that contained 10 thousand dollars in cash. The final destination of lost luggage is to be owned by someone else. That is why it is important to claim your luggage following the proper steps.
El destino final de estas piezas de equipaje es la subasta. Donde se ponen a la venta al mejor postor. Estas subastas se realizan con piezas que no han sido reclamadas en un espacio de 6 meses o mas. Los postores compran las piezas sin haberlas visto, de modo que pueden terminar como manojo de ropas usadas como con una cantidad de dinero en efectivo, como le ocurrió a un afortunado comprador en el 2002, al adquirir un maletín que contenía 10 mil dólares en efectivo. Es decir, el destino final de estas piezas de equipaje es que otros se adueñen de ellas. Es por esto que es muy importante seguir con los pasaos adecuados para reclamar el equipaje.

Algunas personas están tan apurados por dejar el aereopuerto que llegan a olvidar que tienen equipaje guardado dentro del avión! Este en este lugar donde se debe aguardar la aparición de las piezas de equipaje. De no estar seguro, se debe preguntar a cualquier empleado areoportuario donde se encuentran estas cintas.
Secondly; be sure to ask more than one employee, since there are different belts that supply to different flights.
Segundo; es importante preguntar a mas de un empleado puesto que hay diversas cintas que proveen a diferentes líneas aéreas.
Third: Use your luggage stub or ticket to claim the baggage, since it has happened that passengers have confused pieces of luggage as theirs and that might result in a scuffle with fellow travelers that want to claim what´s is rightfully theirs. Its important no to lose your temper or become agitated if after some time the luggage hasn´t appeared yet. It may have taken the unloaders more time to deposit the pieces of baggage on the belt. If after a while, your personal belongings do not turn out,then its time to take action.
Tercero; se debe usar el talón o ticket de check-in de equipaje , puesto que ha ocurrido que pasajeros han confundido bolsos o maletas y esto ha resultado en reyertas con pasajeros que reclaman justamente sus piezas de equipaje.Es importante no perder la calma o agitarse si después de un tiempo el equipaje no aparece. Puede llevarle a los maleteros mas tiempo para depositar las piezas de equipaje en la cinta. Si después de un tiempo sus efectos personales no aparecen es tiempo entonces de tomar acciones.
Scan around the area looking for the Lost and Found Department. If it´s nowhere in sight , walk to any of the counters and ask to be taken to the general luggage deposit. You must insist you have already looked for your bags and that they are nowhere to be found. Its important to stress that the carrying of your bags is the Airline´s responsibility, not yours, as some Airport officials might point out to you. Therefore stand your ground and demand to see the general supervisor. Very calmly, explain the situation and give the officials a margin of time to find out where your bags are. It often happens that suitcases are misplaced due to the color similarity. It might happen that they will ask you to enter a grey windowless office to await the results of the search. This daunts several travellers, especially females, since thay are not comfortable being in small closed spaces within the maze of rooms of an Airport. Its important no to be afraid of this, since the reason you are taken to these kind of rooms is to be able to discus the issue without raising a scene in front of the other passengers, which results in an embarrassment for the Airport Staff.
Mire alrededor del área buscando el departamento de Objetos Perdidos. Si no lo ve, dirígase a uno de los mostradores y pida ser trasladado al depósito general de equipaje. Insista que ud ya ha buscado su equipaje y no lo encuentra por ningún lado.
Es importante que recalque que el transporte de sus bolsos es la responsabilidad de la aerolínea y no suya, como algunos oficiales del aeropuerto podrían contestarle. Por lo tanto manténgase firme y pida ver al supervisor general. De manera calmada explique la situación y dele a los oficiales un margen de tiempo para encontrar la ubicación de su equipaje. Ocurre a menudo que los equipajes son extraviados debido semejanza de colores. Pudiera ocurrir que le pidan ir a una oficina gris sin ventanas para esperar los resultados de la búsqueda. Esto atemoriza a varios viajeros especialmente las viajeras de sexo femenino debido a que no se sienten cómodas estando confinadas en espacios cerrados en el laberinto de cuartos que hay en un aeropuerto. Es importante no tener temor a esto debido a que la razón de que usted sea llevado a este tipo de cuartos es para poder discutir el tema sin hacer una escena enfrente de los otros pasajeros lo cual resultaría vergonzoso para el personal del aeropuerto.
